Winter Sports Travel Insurance Frequently Asked Questions
Am I Covered for Piste Rescue or Airlift?
If you've added the Winter Sports Cover to your Voyager Plus Travel Insurance, you will be covered for medically necessary piste rescue, including airlift by helicopter. However, without Winter Sports Cover, these costs—such as a helicopter airlift from the mountain—are unlikely to be covered. Since even a short helicopter rescue can cost thousands of pounds, adding Winter Sports Cover to your policy is extremely important if you're planning to participate in winter sports.
Can I cancel my holiday because of lack of snow?
No, cancellations due to a lack of snow are not covered under most travel insurance policies, including ours. Travel insurance generally covers unforeseeable events such as medical emergencies or severe weather disruptions, but a lack of snow does not qualify as a valid reason for cancellation. We recommend checking the terms and conditions of your policy for specific details.
Is off-piste skiing covered?
Yes, provided you have paid the winter sports premium and all local safety guidelines are observed.
Is snowboarding covered?
Yes, providing the appropriate winter sports premium has been paid for Short Stay or Long Stay policies. There is 21 days Winter Sports Cover automatically including in an Annual Multi-trip policy.
Am I covered if my skis are stolen from the car roof when I have stopped for a meal whilst travelling to another resort?
Yes, you are covered if your skis are stolen, but they must be securely locked to the roof rack and forcibly removed. Please note that there is no coverage for skis left in a vehicle overnight, even if locked. Always take care to follow security guidelines to ensure your coverage is valid.
I go skiing for 4 weeks every year. Can I extend the 21 days on my Annual Multi-Trip policy?
No, unfortunately the 21-day limit for winter sports cannot be extended on an Annual Multi-Trip policy. However, we recommend considering a Single Trip policy with Winter Sports Cover for your longer trips. This option will provide the necessary coverage for the full duration of your skiing holiday.
