Hire Car Excess Cover from Voyager Travel Insurance

Most people don’t know that when you rent a car you could easily be left with a big bill if the rental car is damaged or stolen.

Even if you have taken the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) that is included in many rental agreements, you are usually still be liable for the excess on the rental company’s car insurance, which could be more than £2,000.

Voyager’s Car Hire Insurance offers a more extensive alternative to the Super Collision Damage Waiver (Super CDW) offered by many hire car companies to remove this excess.

Voyager Car Rental Insurance not only removes the excess on rental car agreements, but also covers many things that some rental company Super CDW's do not, which can be seen in the comparison table below:

  Gold Cover Silver Cover
Excess / Deposit Reimbursement (within the policy year) £12,500 (£15,000) £7,500 (£10,000)
Personal Accident £5,000 NIL
Personal Possessions Cover £500 £300
Rental Key Cover - Lost, stolen or damaged keys - per claim/total per period of insurance £750/£2,500 £500/£2,000
Insured Vehicle Breakdown £750 £500

If you rent a car regularly you may find that our annual multi-trip policy is better value for money for you. For full details please see the policy wording.

So if you plan hiring a car abroad or in the UK click the quote and buy button to get peace of mind at a competitive price. As noted in our previous news article: ‘Is my car hire excess policy valid’, some car rental companies may tell you that this policy is not valid. This is not the case; our policy is independent of your rental agreement with the hire car company and allows you to claim back any excess you may incur while renting a vehicle. Beware that these companies may be trying to scare you into buying their own policy, which may well not have cover for all the aspects that our policy does and cost more.
